Summary of Principal/School Duties

  1. Principals become familiar with International School Program by reviewing the International Program website.
  2. Principal indicate in May the number of possible International placements per grade for the fall term.
  3. Principals receive student applications for possible grade placement in their schools as they become available from International Agent & Canadian Immigration Centre.
  4. Director of International Programs confirm homestay placements with Principal.
  5. Principal and Director of International Programs confirm school and grade placements.
  6. Principal receive “Student Applications” for confirmed student 4 weeks in advance of arrival date.
  7. Principal informs appropriate school staff of the arrival and grade placement of the International student.
  8. For semester and full year students, the Principal arranges for report cards to be issued at the normal reporting periods.  Copies of report cards are sent to the Director of International Programs, who is the Guardian of each International student.
  9. For short-term students, 3 months or less, Principals arrange for an “Anecdotal Report” from the classroom teachers and a “Letter of School Attendance” on school paper and signed by the Principal.
  10. Principals confirm with the Secretary-Treasurer/Accounting Department, the amount of International Funding Support available to their schools.
  11. Principals or designate should meet at a designated time with International Student and Homestay Parent to complete school documents and arrange programs.
  12. Principals should initially consult Homestay Parents regarding unusual and inappropriate behaviours.  The Director of International Programs should be informed if inappropriate behaviours continue. It may be necessary for the Director, Agent, Homestay Parents and International student’s parents to communicate regarding the student behaviour.
  13. Principals and staff are invited to the Student/Homestay Parent monthly meeting.
  14. International students remaining for the summer, will participate in the Sunrise Summer Program.

Report Cards

       1.    Principals and teachers ensure the Report Card, Anecdotal Report, and Letter of School                      Attendance have  the correct spelling of the student's' legal name shown on the                                     student application form. Teachers may write down student's English name, if available,                      in a bracket beside the legal name.

       2.    Principals and teachers ensure the Report Card, Anecdotal Report, and Letter of School                      Attendance include student's correct Date of Birth.

       3.    Principals and teachers ensure the Report Card, Anecdotal Report, and Letter of School                       Attendance include correct Enrolment Period.

       4.    Principals and teachers ensure the Report Card, Anecdotal Report, and Letter of School                       Attendance are signed by the principal or an authorized school staff.

      International students will not be able to register for school in their home countries                             when presenting a Report Card/ Letter of School Attendance from Canada with misspelling            of the name, incorrect Date of Birth and/or Enrolment Period.

      Schools should provide Director of International Student Program a copy of  the Report Card,         Anecdotal Report, and Letter of School Attendance.

      Schools may give the original report cards and letters to the international students to

      take home or mail to Director of International Student Program for distribution at the following
